Do you have boxes, drawers, albums full of seldom visited images? Why not choose 50-60 items (photos/memorabilia), roughly pre-sorted, and learn how to present them for maximum enjoyment – anytime. You don’t need to be artistic. Beginners welcome.

Italian

Venue: Banksia Village, Heath St, Broulee
Minimum 5; Maximum: 10. This course continues on from previous U3A Italian courses. New participants are welcome if they have some knowledge of Italian. There will be some revision of phonetics and grammar but our main aim will be to enjoy Italian and develop fluency in speaking about everyday things. We use Hugo’s Advanced Italian, which is out of print, but you may still find it in bookshops in Canberra. The book Advanced Italian is also available on the internet from the Continental Bookshop, 439 Burke Rd, Glen Iris, Vic 3146. The book consists of challenging but interesting intermediate-level literary and other texts with exercises. We expect to complete Lesson 3 and start Lesson 4 in Term 2, 2010. We supplement Hugo’s Advanced Italian with exercises from Berlitz Basic Italian Workbook, which is available from Moruya Books. We also sing songs in Italian.

Scottish Country Dancing

This term a beginners’ class will start at 9:30 am – a half hour before the normal class each Thursday morning. If you have not tried dancing with the Scots before, now is the time to have a go. All welcome – you’ll have a marvellous time. Then move on – to enjoy a popular dance tradition that has spread to all parts of the world. Lively rhythms of reels, jigs and stately elegant strathspeys. Fun social activity – come alone or with a partner and friends. Great exercise for the body and brain. All you need is a pair of light shoes (and a light heart!)
Apocalyptic Literature in the Bible – New course this term Tutor: David McCann & Kevin Brown [Ph. David 4471 5409 or email dmccann44[at]hotmail.com] Commences: 22 July for 10 weekly sessions Time: 10am to 12 noon Venue: Malua Bay Community Centre Minimum: 10 Following the sessions on wisdom literature and the Book of Job, many were interested in looking further at Biblical literature. This course will cover apocalyptic literature, which is intriguing and challenging – its origins, characteristics and purpose. We will look in some detail at the Book of Daniel and the Revelation of John. The approach is literary and historical – we are not looking for indications of the future.

Climate – A Changing View – New course this term Tutor: Grant Miles [Ph 4472 5627 or email gl.mlm[at]hotkey.net.au] Commences: 29 July for 5 fortnightly sessions Time: 1 to 3pm Venue: Batemans Bay Community Centre Minimum: 5 Maximum: N/A The concept of climate is different for a geologist, a farmer, an astrophysicist, a geographer or just a family moving house, but all agree that climate does change. Today our media use ‘climate change’ as implying anthropogenic global warming (AGW) courtesy of the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC). After a brief historical review, the course starts with the consideration of the main drivers of the earth’s climate. We will examine the genesis, motivation and the modus operandi of the IPCC. This includes examining their pronouncements and catastrophe scenarios which are demonstrably false.

The“Sewing Sisters” have officially diversified. Patchwork continues to be our major activity, with new blocks being added to our collections. Most members are still adding these to a “Memory Quilt”.
