Stream of Consciousness
Saturday, 1 June – 10.00am til Noon
Baylink Community Room, 3 Flora Crescent, Batemans Bay
This will be a joint presentation by John Maneschi and Joy Hooton on two leading early 20th century novelists, one Irish and one Italian – James Joyce and Italo Svevo. Both writers adopted the ‘stream of consciousness’ style of writing and benefited greatly from their mutual literary association over many years. Both also produced classics in the literature of their countries. The talk will include excerpts from their writings.
Fly Me to the Moon
Saturday, 29 June – 10.00am til Noon
Geoff Seymour, who was the Engineer in charge of the computer and telemetry sections of the Honeysuckle Creek tracking station, will talk about the role it played in man’s first landing on the moon. The talk is planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, which occurs in July 2019. While the film The Dish provided a very entertaining version of this momentous event, and Australia’s role in it, it wrongly ascribes the honour of our contribution to the station at Parkes, and not to Honeysuckle Creek. Fifty years later, you can learn how we were really involved!
A $2 door charge is made for all attendees to defray venue hire costs and to pay for tea and coffee.
