In the first of two Saturday talks, Marion Roubos-Bennett will briefly describe the history of paper and pigments, and how they have been used over the centuries – from rag paper to hemp paper, and from lapis lazuli to gold leaf and yellow ochre. The illustrated presentation will show examples of artworks showing the use of pigments in books throughout history. A second talk, tentatively scheduled for June 2017, will cover Printing and Binding. Along the way Marion will talk about famous and particular books which exemplify these aspects.
