Date(s) - 29/10/2016
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Malua Bay Community Centre

Petrarch (or in Italian, Francesco Petrarca) was a scholar, poet and humanist who lived in the 14th century. His poems addressed to Laura, an idealised beloved, contributed to the flowering of lyric poetry in the Renaissance.  Petrarch had an enquiring mind and travelled extensively, visiting men of learning and searching monastic libraries for Classical manuscripts. He was regarded as the greatest scholar of his age.
In this talk John will discuss some of his poems, his development of the sonnet form and his influence on Shakespeare’s poetry.
