TO OPERATE THE TOSHIBA TLP-XSD30 DIGITAL PROJECTOR VIA THE U3A TOSHIBA LAPTOP
  1. Plug in the power cable to the laptop computer. (The power cable is kept in the side pocket of the laptop carry bag).
  2. Plug in the power cable (P1) to the projector . Power cable P1 is kept in the side pocket of the projector carry bag).
  3. Insert one end of cable P2 (kept in the blue canvas cable bag which accompanies the projector) into the blue socket on the rear edge of the laptop, and tighten the holding screws. Plug the other end of cable P2 into the “COMPUTER” socket on the rear edge of the projector and tighten the holding screws.
  4. Remove the lens-cap on the projector (failure to do this may cause the lens-cap to be distorted by the heat of the lens).
  5.  Plug the mouse cable into one of the 3 USB ports on the right hand edge of the computer .
  6.  Turn on the power to laptop and projector.
  7.  Turn on the laptop (oval button top left).
  8. Turn on the projector by pressing “on/standby”. After a few seconds, the checkerboard Toshiba screen will be projected, followed by the laptop opening screen (Stonehenge picture). If this does not happen hold down the function (Fn) key on the keyboard and press F5. Three screen symbols will appear – press F5 repeatedly until the middle of the three symbols is highlighted. You should now be projecting the image on the Laptop screen.

Note – Other computers (not Toshiba) may use a different F key for this function.

 

To project still images from a disc
  1. Open the CD drive tray by pressing the button on the right-hand edge of the laptop (Figure 3) – the drawer will pop open. Put your disc in and close the drawer by pushing it in until it clicks into place.
  2. After a few moments the computer should recognise the disc, and a window will open asking what you want to do. Click on “View a slide show using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer” and click OK.
  3. When the first picture is projected, move the cursor to the top right corner of the screen, and click the “pause” button. You can now move to the next slide at your own speed by pressing the right arrow key on the keyboard for each change of image. Use the left arrow key to return to the previous image.
  4. At the end of your presentation, click on the X in the top right corner of the screen to close the Windows Picture Viewer, press the button on the right edge of the computer to remove your disc, and close the drawer again. Turn off the computer by pressing the oval on/off button.
  5. To turn off the projector press the “on/standby” button. An on-screen message will tell you to press it again to turn off. Leave the projector to cool down before moving it. When it is cool the fan will stop and the green “fan” light will go out. It is now safe to move the projector.
NOTE

If your projected image is bright pink (i.e no green in the picture), it may be that the input settings have been changed. Press the “input” button on the projector, and a panel with the choices Y/PB/PR, COMPUTER, VIDEO, AND S-VIDEO will appear top left. Using the up and down buttons on the projector, make sure the “COMPUTER” choice is selected. Press menu. Your picture should return to full colour.

 

TO OPERATE THE TOSHIBA TLP-XD2000 DIGITAL PROJECTOR VIA THE U3A TOSHIBA LAPTOP
  1. Plug in the power cable to the laptop computer. (The power cable is kept in the side pocket of the laptop carry bag).
  2. Plug in the power cable (P1) to the projector (Figure 1 above). (Power cable P1 is kept in the side pocket of the projector carry bag).
  3. Insert one end of cable P2 (kept in the side pocket of the projector carry bag) into the blue socket on the rear edge of the laptop, and tighten the holding screws. Plug the other end of cable P2 into one of the “COMPUTER” sockets on the rear of the projector and tighten the holding screws..
  4. Remove the lens-cap on the projector (failure to do this may cause the lens-cap to be distorted by the heat of the lens).
  5. Plug the mouse cable into one of the 3 USB ports on the right hand edge of the computer (Figure 2 above).
  6. Turn on the power to laptop and projector.
  7. Turn on the laptop (oval button top left).
  8. Turn on the projector by pressing “on/standby”. After a few seconds, the checkerboard Toshiba screen will be projected, followed by the laptop opening screen (Stonehenge picture). If this does not happen hold down the function (Fn) key on the keyboard and press F5. Three screen symbols will appear – press F5 repeatedly until the middle of the three symbols is highlighted. You should now be projecting the image on the Laptop screen.

Note – Other computers (not Toshiba) may use a different F key for this function.

To project still images from a disc

  2. After a few moments the computer should recognise the disc, and a window will open asking what you want to do. Click on “View a slide show using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer” and click OK.
  3. When the first picture is projected, move the cursor to the top right corner of the screen, and click the “pause” button. You can now move to the next slide at your own speed by pressing the right arrow key on the keyboard for each change of image. Use the left arrow key to return to the previous image.
  4. At the end of your presentation, click on the X in the top right corner of the screen to close the Windows Picture Viewer, press the button on the right edge of the computer to remove your disc, and close the drawer again. Turn off the computer by pressing the oval on/off button.
  5. To turn off the projector press the “on/standby” button. An on-screen message will tell you to press it again to turn off. Leave the projector to cool down before moving it. When it is cool the fan will stop and the green “fan” light will go out. It is now safe to move the projector.

TO OPERATE THE TOSHIBA TLP-S30 DIGITAL PROJECTOR VIA A PC
  1. Plug in the power cable to projector. (The power cable is kept in the side pocket of the carry bag).
  2. Unplug the cable connecting your monitor to your PC, and plug it into the “MONITOR” socket on the projector.
  3. Using cable “P2”, connect the “COMPUTER” socket on the projector to the socket on your PC that your monitor was previously plugged into.
  4. Turn on the power to PC and projector.
  5. Turn on the PC.
  6. Turn on the projector by pressing “on/standby”. After a few seconds, the opening screen of the PC will be projected. Navigate into your PC in the usual way – whatever is on your PC screen will be projected.

NOTE

If your projected image is bright purple (i.e. no green in the picture), it may be that the input settings have been changed. Press the “input” button on the projector, and a panel with the choices Y/PB/PR, COMPUTER, VIDEO, AND S-VIDEO will appear top left. Using the up and down buttons on the projector, make sure the “COMPUTER” choice is selected. Press menu. Your picture should return to full colour.
TO SHOW A DVD
  1. Turn on the computer and projector as described in the instructions for the projector you are using.
  2. Insert your DVD disc.
  3. After a short time the computer should recognise your disc as a DVD, and the Intervideo WIN DVD playing window will open.
  4. Click the “pause” button before the film starts.
  5. Click the “maximise” icon (top right) to view full screen.
  6. Press the space-bar on the keyboard to start the film.
TO CONNECT THE U3A PA SYSTEM TO THE LAPTOP FOR THE PROJECTION OF CDs and DVDs WITH SOUND
  1. Connect the laptop to the projector as described in the instructions for the projector you are using
  2. Connect the speakers to the Sound Mixer Deck.
  3. Connect the laptop to the Sound Mixer Deck using cable P4 – the single end goes in the headphone socket on the front edge of the laptop, and the double end goes in the Sound Mixer Deck in the red and white sockets top right (either Channel 5/6 or 7/8)
  4. Set the red master knob (bottom row, far left) to high, and adjust the volume with the white “level” knob. Adjust base and treble levels with the grey knobs.

 

TO OPERATE THE TOSHIBA TLP-XD2000 DIGITAL PROJECTOR VIA A PC
  1. Plug in the power cable to projector. (The power cable is kept in the side pocket of the carry bag).
  2. Unplug the cable connecting your monitor to your PC, and plug it into the “COMPUTER 2” socket on the projector.
  3. Using cable “P2”, connect the “COMPUTER 1” socket on the projector to the socket on your PC that your monitor was previously plugged into.
  4. Turn on the power to PC and projector.
  5. Turn on the PC.
  6. Turn on the projector by pressing “on/standby”. After a few seconds, the opening screen of the PC will be projected. Navigate into your PC in the usual way – whatever is on your PC screen will be projected.

  2. Connect the speakers to the Sound Mixer Deck.
  3. Connect the laptop to the Sound Mixer Deck using cable P4 – the single end goes in the headphone socket on the front edge of the laptop, and the double end goes in the Sound Mixer Deck in the red and white sockets top right (either Channel 5/6 or 7/8)
